Poupee Girl, poupee being the french word for doll, is a website that allows users to design their own virtual paper doll and dress her in various styles. The website uses graphic artwork by Yuca Shimotashiro, and is owned by CyberAgent Inc.

In Poupee world ribbons are your currency, and are earned by uploading pictures of real life accessories, clothes, dolls and dressing up your doll daily. You can also earn ribbon’s by commenting on other users photographs. Each user can spend their hard earned ribbons at the community mall, in which resides a resale shop and Catherine’s store. A bonus of uploading your own pictures is your are gifted an item with each upload up to a certain vague amount. In this game, pictures of your brand name items tend to rake in the most amount of ribbons and better items. It’s a little hard to explain, but once you get in there it’s quite addictive. I think the greatest thing about Poupee Girl, is the fact that it brings together a wide variety of people. It does tend to be a little on the vain side if you are against “branding”, however if you sign up and don’t take it too seriously - it can be a lot of fun. I personally love seeing everyone’s different tastes when dressing their poupee. It’s really just a virtual Blythe, and best of all it’s FREE!

It is very important to read the FAQ, and get an understanding of what is prohibited. Violations can cost you your ribbons. The most important rule in my opinion is that the photographs you upload MUST BE YOUR OWN. There have been problems with users stealing photographs, and Poupee Girl administrators are very slow to address the problem. However, if you find your photos stolen and contact the administrators repeatedly, the user is eventually banned from uploading photo’s any further.

Flickr user, Xie Kitchen, started a very informative Flickr group called, P-Girl Daily. It started with only 20 or so members and can now claim almost 80 in just a few weeks time. P-Girl Daily is a great stop for beginners, as it contains discussions that are very informative to a Poupee newbie. P-Girl is a very interactive group with Poupee Girl dress up themes, ie. Rainbow Week, and daily screenshot uploads. There is also a LiveJournal community that seems helpful as well. I am not an active member of the community, but a lurker that finds some of the posts helpful. You must be a member to read the posts on their site. The most helpful resource I had in the beginning was the guide by LiveJournal user “pinkhuggies”. She has a screencapped english tutorial that guides newbie Poupees from dressing to how to earn ribbons.

So if you have not jumped on the Poupee Girl bandwagon and would like to - you can either go directly to the website and sign up, or you can contact a friend that is already a member for an invite. With an invite you both earn an extra 30 ribbons, and in Poupee Girl world every ribbon counts.
